HEALTHCARE
CLIENT NEED
A
renowned children’s hospital in Virginia – the facility of choice for
pediatric care in the Southeast - found that through many years of
decentralized technology purchasing decisions, they were equipped with
four “core” applications stored on different hardware platforms with
various operating systems. Each storage platform had its own stovepipe,
including direct attached storage on several Intel systems, and there
was no centralized backup or functional data recovery plan. This
Virginia pediatric care facility wanted to consolidate their storage
platform and create data transfer and backup processes.
DATALINE CONSULTING SERVICES INVOLVEMENT
Dataline
Consulting Services provided the client with recommendations for the
best way to move as many systems to a consolidated storage platform as
possible. The client’s original storage platforms included IBM I Series
(OS400), DEC Alpha (VMS and Unix), and IBM P Services (Unix), as well
as Intel operating systems. We identified RISC, Intel, and UNIX as
potential candidates, and then worked with the hospital IT staff to
plan and implement the new systems and handle data migration.
BENEFITS ACHIEVED
Through
the work of Dataline, the hospital now has a consolidated data storage
system and comprehensive data recovery plan using a state-of-the art
replication product. The overhaul of the client’s systems has resulted
in:
Improved performance
Reduced management costs and headaches
Increased staff effectiveness without growth
Reduced training costs
Improved quality of life for staff
Growth potential for storage environment
