HEALTHCARE
CLIENT NEED
A
California-based life sciences company came to Dataline Consulting
Services with a data management challenge. As the company expanded to
30 sites worldwide, growing at a rate of 10 sites per year, this
laboratory products manufacturer found that their data management
processes had become obsolete for their new business model. Backups
were taking days to complete, and some sites weren’t being backed up at
all. Backup applications and the media used for them were a hodgepodge
with no real standard. In the event that one of the company’s sites was
to suffer a catastrophic loss, there was no guarantee that they could
recover. Overall, this company needed to centralize and standardize its
enterprise backup and data protection strategy to ensure total support
across their worldwide network of sites.
DATALINE CONSULTING SERVICES INVOLVEMENT
Dataline
Consulting Services provided this client with a comprehensive
Enterprise Backup Assessment. Our work included mapping out their
existing environment, uncovering the issues and challenges their
current infrastructure faced, and finally designing and implementing a
Global Backup Strategy and Plan that could expand as the company grew.
We implemented a consolidated approach using Veritas NetBackup 4.0 as
the global standard for their Enterprise Backup Application.
Additionally, StorageTek libraries with LTO tape technology were
launched throughout their Global Infrastructure to provide the client
with consistency in tape media management globally.
BENEFITS ACHIEVED
As
the company expands worldwide, their data management system can easily
grow to meet their backup needs and allow for smooth transition with
complete data protection. Benefits of this client’s new, consolidated
backup strategy include:
Immediate cost savings of $200,000 through leveraged purchasing power with their strategic vendor partners
Centralized management of global backups through one backup administrator
An expandable system for implementing quick, efficient, and reliable backups and restoration
